June 21: Sperone, PUNK, Matilda & Marea

Again a beautiful sunny day in nyc. In the morning we went to the artgallery Sperone. Bergarde, my fathers artgallery, is working together with Sperone. They always have very nice exhibitions which are very fun to see. Now they have an exhibition of Wim Delvoye, a Belgian artist, and of the artist Mark Greenwold.

The paintings of Greenwold are amazing, I saw them already in the catalogue at home and found them a bit awkward at that time, but in real life they come alive. The relationships between people are portrayed very interestingly. The details are done very well. All the people in the picture are acquaintances of Greenwold.

Punk: couture to chaos at the Metropolitan. I had never been to the Metropolitan museum before, and it’s huge! The exhibition was really cool to see. I always feel a bit connected to Punk. I think punk is a nice example of how fashion, art, music & politics are connected. Fashion is a reaction at what’s happening in the environment, and has because of that a strong relationship with art. Punk is a lot about doing it yourself, e.g. dying and ripping your clothes. I think you see a lot of punk (or aspects of) in the streets now, as well as in Holland as here. Maybe because of the financial crisis.

We had lunch at the Met and had a walk at Madison Avenue heading home away from home. And in the evening we went to see Matilda!!! I think a lot of people have seen the movie or read the book. Loved the show, the kids were amazing and the sets were very nicely done.

After Matilda we had a very nice dinner at 2 Michelin star restaurant Marea.
